Hello there! My name is Kara Burke head Wrangler of the Burke Ridge Farm! Our whole journey to be a farm started 7 years ago in Fair Oaks CA We had 12 hens and a backyard garden something I had always done since I was a child. I started making furniture around 9 years ago when I was going through paramedic school as an outlet to the stress the job had acquired. My first piece was a piano bench and then a French provincial bedroom set and I was hooked. My whole house became repurposed furniture. I met my husband doing ride alongs for the fire department where he worked as a firefighter 9 years ago and we are coming up on 8 years of marriage. We have 4 children 15,14,6 and 4. We are a blended family and I'm ok with that. My main full-time job was and is being a paramedic which I've worked in EMS on the ambulance and teaching in the academy for 13 years now. I have aided in birth and I have held hands during death. I see the faces of every person I have ever cared for over the years in EMS and that pushes me to be better every day . It's a true calling and sacrifice to be a public servant. Fast forward to 5 years ago. My husband and I decided to move the family to the mountains of Pollock Pines and start a fully self sufficient farm where we have been raising by trial and error, 60 chickens, 40 ducks, geese, turkeys, quail, doves, rabbits, pigs and bees! We have 1/3 acre garden and have been providing the public at Farmer's markets with our eggs, chicken meat, honey and vegetables for 3 years now. My inspiration for my furniture comes from my grandparents 30 Acre farm or and true farmhouse for that manner. White chippy barns, or red chicken coops. Patina, rust, wood and metal all the things that remind me of home. Long farm tables to feed a whole family holiday dinner. Summer flowers bouquets from the garden, freshly picked vegetables, homemade jam on an old kitchen island. As you walk through my space I hope you can connect with all the things from my farm creations and hopefully you find a forever piece for your home as well. Thank you for stopping by.
